The works of the Nigerian-born US based artist Wole Lagunju (b.1966) are instantly recognisable for their distinctive style often featuring a backdrop of overflowing floral decor incorporating and fusing elements of Yoruba culture combined with a Western Euro-American fashion aesthetic, the figures reflecting a sense of power and attitude stemming from individualism born out through fashion, design and cultural appropriation.
Born in 1966, Nigeria, Wole Lagunju lives and works in the US. He his the recipeint of the following grants: Phillip L. Ravenhill Fellow 2006/ 2007, UCLA and The Pollock Krasner Award 2009.
